Tirupati Laddu Facts


Laddu, or Ladoo, is one of the most important offering and prasadam given to devotees at the Tirumala Tirupati LordVenkateswara Temple. Tirupati Laddu is a spherical-shaped sweet made of flour and sugar. In fact, Tirupati and the huge laddus are synonymous. It is a customary duty of a devotee returning from Tirupati Balaji Temple to distribute ‘laddu’ as prasadam to his neighbors, friends and relatives.
Some quick facts about Tirupati Laddu
  • Around 150,000 laddus are made daily.
  • One laddu is given free to each devotee; the number of daily devotees that visit the temple is around 50,000.
  • A devotee can buy extra two laddus – a small laddu costs 25 rupees and big laddu costs 100 rupees.
  • The revenue from the sale of laddu annually is more than 11 million rupees.
  • Each laddu weighs around 100gms and is huge when compared with the normal laddu found in shops.
  • There is a super huge Tirupati Laddu known as Kalyana Laddu and it weighs around 500gms – ½ a kilogram.
  • Single largest laddu made is said to have weighed 32 kg.
  • The tradition of Tirupati Laddu is nearly 300 years old.
  • It is prepared by special hereditary priests known as archakas in special temple kitchen known as ‘potu’.
  • Ingredients used in Tirupati Laddu are Besan flour (kadalai mavu), Sugar, Cashew nuts, Cardamom, Ghee, Oil, Sugar candy, Raisins and Almonds.
On a day around 5000 kg of Besan flour is used.
Sugar around 10000 kg.
Cashew nuts around 600 kg.
Cardamom 150 kg
Ghee 300 liters
Sugar candy 400 kg
Raisins 540 kg
  • The ingredients are bought at the auction at the Commodities and Spices Exchange in Kochi.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTDs) the administrating body of the temple is planning to patent the Tirupati Laddu to stop counterfeits.

Prominent among the temples of Lord Sri Ganesha are a cluster of eight temples popularly known as Ashta Vinayaka temples which are totally dedicated to Lord Sri Maha Ganapathi. These temples are very ancient where Lord Sri Vinayaka had manifested in different cosmic ages. They are,
  1. Sri Mayureshwar at Moregaon
  2. Sri Siddhi Vinayaka at Siddhatek
  3. Sri Ballaleshwar at Pali
  4. Sri Varada Vinayaka at Mahad
  5. Sri Chintamani at Theur
  6. Sri Girijaatmaj at Lenyadri
  7. Sri Vighneshwar at Ozhar
  8. Sri Maha Ganapathi at Ranjangaon
All these eight temples are located in the state of Maharastra within a radius of about 100 km from Pune city. It is not possible to cover all these temples visit within one day. It requires minimum two or three days for a complete visit. Conducted tour facilities are available from Pune as well as from Mumbai cities. నీ అడుగులో అడుగెయ్యాలని
నీ వెనకే నిలుచున్నాను
నీ అడుగు మరో అడుగులో పడుతుందని
నా జీవితం మరోకరితో యేడడుగుల పయనం అని

దీర్ఘసుమంగళీ ప్రాప్తం కోసం "వరలక్ష్మీవ్రతము"

శ్రీ మన్మంద కటాక్ష లబ్ధ విభవః 1 బ్రహ్మేంద్ర గంగాధం 1

త్వాం త్రైలోక్య కుటుంబినీం సరసిజాం వందేముకుందప్రియామ్" 2

అంటూ శ్రీ వరలక్ష్మీ వ్రతం నాడు శ్రీ మహాలక్ష్మిని ధ్యానించిన వారికి సుఖసంతోషాలు చేకూరుతాయని పురోహితులు అంటున్నారు. వరలక్ష్మీవ్రతం మహిమను పరమశివుడు పార్వతీదేవికి ఉపదేశించినట్లు పురాణాలు చెబుతున్నాయి. ఒకసారి కైలాస పర్వతమందు పరమేశ్వరునితో పార్వతీదేవి లోకమున స్త్రీలు ఏ వ్రతమాచరిస్తే సర్వసౌభాగ్యం, పుత్రపౌత్రాదులతో సుఖంబుగా ఉంటారో చెప్పమని ప్రార్థిస్తుంది.

అందులకు పరమశివుడు ఎంతగానో సంతసించి ప్రజాహితము కోరి నీవడిగిన సంశయమును తీర్చెదనని వరలక్ష్మీవ్రతము గురించి ఉపదేశించినట్లు గాధలున్నాయి. పూర్వము మగధేశమున చారుమతి అనే మహా పతివ్రతయైన బ్రాహ్మణ స్త్రీ ఉండేది. ఆమె అనుదినము గృహస్థు ధర్మాన్ని ఆదర్శవంతంగా నిర్వహిస్తూ భర్తను, అత్తమామలను సేవిస్తూ ఉండేది.

అట్టి పతివ్రతామతల్లిపై శ్రీవరలక్ష్మీకి అనుగ్రహం లభించింది. ఒకనాడు స్వప్నమందు వరలక్ష్మీదేవి చారుమతికి ప్రత్యక్షమై వచ్చే శ్రావణమాస శుక్లపక్ష పూర్ణిమకు ముందువచ్చెడి శుక్రవారం నాడు నన్ను పూజించిన యెడల నీవు కోరిన వరంబులిచ్చెదని పలికినది.

ఈ స్వప్న వృత్తాంతమును ముందు భర్తకు, అనంతరం అత్తమామలకు, తర్వాత ఇరుగుపొరుగు వారలకు చారుమతి ఎంతో సంతోషముగా చెబుతుంది. ఆ రోజు నుంచి స్త్రీలందరూ ఆ వరలక్ష్మీదేవి చెప్పిన శ్రావణమాస శుక్లపక్ష పూర్ణిమకు ముందునచ్చే శుక్రవారం ఎప్పుడెప్పుడా అని ఎదురుచూశారు. ఈ క్రమంలో ఆ పుణ్యదినం రానే వచ్చింది.

ఆ రోజు చారుమతి మున్నగు స్త్రీలందరు వారి వారి ఇళ్లను ముత్యాల ముగ్గులతో, పచ్చనితోరణాలతో అలంకరించుకుని, ఒక బ్రాహ్మణోత్తముని ఆహ్వానించి షోడశోపచారములతో ఆ వరలక్ష్మీ దేవిని చారుమతితో కలిసి స్త్రీలందరూ పూజించిరి. నానావిధ భక్ష్య భోజనములను ఆ తల్లికి నివేదన చేసి, ఆ తల్లికి వారంతా ఒక ప్రదక్షణ చేయగానే కాలి అందియెలు ఘల్లు ఘల్లుమని శబ్దము వినిపించసాగెను.

అందరూ వారి వాళ్లను చూచుకోగా, చారుమతితో సహా వారి అందరి కాళ్లకు గజ్జెలు కనిపించినవి. వారంతా వరలక్ష్మీ కటాక్షము పొందారని పరమేశ్వరు పార్వతీదేవితో చెప్పెను. అందుచేత ఈ వ్రతమును ఆచరించిన స్త్రీలకు ఐదోతనము, సౌభాగ్యం, సంతానప్రాప్తి వంటి సర్వశుభములు కలుగుతాయి. అలాగే కన్నెముత్తైదువులు ఈ వ్రతాన్ని ఆచరించినట్లైతే వారికి మంచి భవిష్యత్తు లభిస్తుందని పరమేశ్వరుడు పార్వతీదేవితో చెప్పినట్లు పురాణాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.

వరలక్ష్మీ వ్రతము రోజున ఎలా పూజ చేయాలి

శ్రావణమాస శుక్లపక్ష పూర్ణిమకు ముందుగా వచ్చే "శుక్రవారం" నాడు జరుపుకునే "వరలక్ష్మీ వ్రతము"ను తొలుత పార్వతీ దేవి, పరమేశ్వరునిచే ఉపదేశము పొంది ఈ వ్రత ఫలితంగా సుబ్రహ్మణ్య స్వామిని పొందినట్ల పురాణాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.
అంతేగాకుండా చరిత్రలో ప్రసిద్ధిగాంచిన నందుడు, విక్రమార్కుడు ఈ వ్రతమాచరించి సింహానాధికారము పొందినట్లు గాధలు కలవు. అలాగే ఈ వ్రతమును ఆచరించే స్త్రీలకు అయిదోతనము, సౌభాగ్యము, సంతానప్రాప్తి వంటి సర్వశుభములు కలుగుతాయని పురోహితులు అంటున్నారు.
అట్టి మహిమాన్వితమైన "వరలక్ష్మీ వ్రతము" ఆచరించాలనుకునే స్త్రీలు ఉదయం ఐదింటికే నిద్రలేచి, శుచిగా తలస్నానమాచరించాలి. పూజామందిరమును, ఇంటిని శుభ్రం చేసి గడపకు పసుపు కుంకుమ, గుమ్మానికి తోరణాలు, పూజా మందిరమును రంగ వల్లికలతో అలంకరించుకోవాలి.
తెలుపు రంగు దుస్తులు ధరించి పూజకు ఉపయోగపడు పటాలను గంధము, కుంకుమలతో అలంకరించుకోవాలి. శ్రీలక్ష్మీదేవి (ఆకుపచ్చనిచీరతో) ఉన్న ఫోటోనుగానీ లేదా వెండితో తయారు చేసిన శ్రీలక్ష్మీ ప్రతిమనుగాని పూజకు సిద్ధం చేసుకోవాలి. కలశమును సిద్ధం చేసుకుని, దానిపై తెల్లటి వస్త్రమును కప్పాలి. ఎర్రటి అక్షతలు, గులాబి పువ్వులు, పద్మములు, ఎర్ర కలువపూలు వంటి పుష్పాలను పూజకు ఉపయోగించుకోవచ్చు. అలాగే నైవేద్యానికి బొంబాయి రవ్వతో కేసరిబాత్, రవ్వలడ్డులు, జామకాయలు వంటివి సమర్పించుకోవచ్చు.
పూజకు ముందు లక్ష్మీ అష్టోత్తరము, మహాలక్ష్మీ అష్టకము, కనకధారస్తవము, శ్రీలక్ష్మీ సహస్రనామము, వరలక్ష్మీ వ్రత కథ వంటి స్త్రోత్రములతో అమ్మవారిని స్తుతించవచ్చు. లేదా "ఓం మహాలక్ష్మీదేవ్యై నమః" అనే మంత్రాన్ని 108 సార్లు జపించడం ద్వారా దీర్ఘసుమంగళీ ప్రాప్తం చేకూరుతుంది.
శుక్రవారం సాయంత్రం ఆరు గంటల నుంచి వరలక్ష్మీ పూజ చేయవచ్చు. దీపారాధనకు రెండు దీపాలు, ఆరు ప్లస్ ఆరు తామర వత్తులతో దీపమెలిగించాలి. దీపారాధనకు కొబ్బరినూనెను వాడటం చాలా మంచిది. నుదుటన ఎర్రటి కుంకుమ ధరించి, ఈశాన్యము దిక్కున తిరిగి పూజచేయాలి. పూజ పూర్తవ్వగానే ఇరుగుపొరుగు స్త్రీలను పిలిపించుకుని మహిళలు తాంబూలముతో పాటు పండ్లు, దుస్తులతో వాయనమివ్వాలని పురోహితులు చెబుతున్నారు.
అలాగే అష్టలక్ష్మీదేవాలయాలు, లక్ష్మీదేవాలయాలను దర్శించుకున్న వారికి సకలసంపదలు చేకూరుతాయని విశ్వాసం. ఇంకా ఆలయాల్లో శ్రీలక్ష్మీ అష్టోత్తరనామపూజ, వరలక్ష్మీవ్రతము, శ్రీలక్ష్మీ కోటికుంకుమార్చన, శ్రీలక్ష్మీ సహస్రనామ పారాయణ, పంచామృతాభిషేకము వంటి పూజాకార్యక్రమాలు చేయించే వారికి అష్టైశ్వర్యాలు చేకూరుతాయని పురోహితులు చెబుతున్నారు.
